I joined Debenham Sports and Leisure in 2010 and managed the organisation until August 2018. Taking a break, I was invited back in July 2019 to take over as Chair. I have a background of Business in the NHS. I was a paramedic for 30 years ending my career in 2004 as Chief Executive of an ambulance Trust. I went on to work for the British Red Cross Emergency response team and undertook various deployments to assist British citizens abroad involved in disasters and evacuations. I have a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), which has been put to good use at the Charity.

I have been a resident of Debenham for over 20 years, and I love being part of this community. I have retired, but my background is in Geophysics, most recently working for a company driving CO2 storage and geothermal energy projects. I already serve on the Woodlands and Waterways Steering Group, and on the Friends of Debenham Library. I'm delighted to now be part of the team of trustees here at DS&L.

I have lived in Debenham since 1994 and after retiring from teaching I have been actively involved in community activities. I joined the trustees at the end of 2021 after six years as editor of the Debenham Parish Magazine. I am also on the Hoppit Wood and Lake Steering Committee. I am delighted to become a trustee at DS&L and hope to aid its continued development.

I have lived in Debenham for over 15 years. I work for a company in Ipswich, called Your Life Our Help. I run the student support team, which provides mentoring and study skills to university students in East Anglia. Previously, I worked in recruitment and media in London. In my spare time, I am in a local band, I enjoy acting and directing and generally, chilling with my wife Heli and three grown up children (although I'm sure my children don't enjoy chilling with me, as much). I hope that my work experience and enthusiasm can be utilised within Debenham Sports & Leisure, to make it even more successful within the community.

I was born in Debenham and have been involved with the Community Centre for most of my life. For 23 years I was employed as finance manager for the Trust and after my retirement it was a natural progression to become a Trustee. I still work part-time for another company and in my spare time I try to keep my garden under control. I love cats and Lego.

We moved from Kent to Debenham in 2022 and could not be more pleased to be a part of such an amazing community. After being with NatWest for 18 months I spent the rest of my career working as a Private Bank Manger in the City and the West End. First at the oldest Private bank in the UK and latterly with the newest. In my spare time I like to watch rugby and can be found at Saracens home matches on a regular basis. Fun fact – Sir Quentin Blake named a book after me – check it out ‘Mr Filkins in the desert’ Filkins was my business stage name.

I have been a Debenham resident since 2006 and established Debenham Veterinary Practice with my wife Jade, in 2013. I'm a father of four and my family is passionate about sport; while I am a keen squash player, I am completely outnumbered by the footballers in the family. I am delighted to serve as a DS&L Trustee to help the centre's development meet the needs of the local community.
